    本テキストは、姉妹書『ディズニーアニメと多様化する社会』と同様に、Diversity in Disney Films: Critical Essays on Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Sexuality and Disability に収められたエッセイを素材としている。『ディズニーアニメと多様化する社会』は主に ジェンダーやセクシュアリティに焦点を当てていたが、それに対し本書では、人種・民 族と特権、障害とアイデンティティ、他者性、人間性といった観点から、ディズニー映画三作品―『オリバー／ニューヨーク子猫物語』、『ノートルダムの鐘』、『美女と野獣』―を読み解くエッセイを収録している。前作同様本書のターゲットは、比較的高い英語運用能力を身につけた学生である。ディズニーをモチーフにして社会を分析する映画論を読み解くことで、学習者は読解力だけではなく、高度な言語運用に欠かせない分析力や批判的思考力も身につけ、考えを深化することができる。加えて自らの考えを発信するための語彙、表現、議論のレベルを高めるタスクも用意されている。
