単なる時事的なトピックではなく、難易度の高い語句を随所にちりばめた精読に値するエッセイを全１０ユニットに配し、TOEFLはじめ他の 学外試験に準じた問題形式で、その読解力の充実を図る。各ユニットのエッセイは、短い題材を集中して読み、その内容をしっかり把握できるように 4つのセクションに分割されている。ユニット末尾には、英字新聞や雑誌などを読むために必要と思われる語彙を取り上げ、 その能力の向上を図る。
